This is already provided with the paging mechanism, and with another
one that does lazy computation of what is displayed (however, this
does not scale well).
Is there a way to profile a GC problem?

but maybe I am
missing something.
A caching system would work if you go twice over the same item.
But, in this case you just go through multiple lists. What would
you cache?
For each line in the list, you get multiple morphs. That is quite
expensive. There already is the paging mechanism to only show a
limited amount of items, and this is now workable. But, it still
isn't quite as it should be.
The coolest thing would be a parallel computation of the morphs :)
