I like your example, but these edges work even better when you have a circular tree layout. Are you working on that as well?

The new b-spline shape Hernan is working on will require a collection of nodes (path of nodes the edge should follow). It is independent of any layout.
Probably next week we send an update of his work.

that looks very cool! Quick questions: - this can go from any node to any node or does there need to be a hierarchy between them? - can this appear/disappear as a context-sensitive action, e.g. on hover?

There has to be some nodes to indicates the "path" the edge has to take. Maybe we can try with some artificial point of control.

There is no reason why it should not. So, I think yes
