Hello,
I'd like to serve my SmallWiki on port 80 under MacOS-X, but I always
get a 'permission denied error' when I try to do this ... Did anybody
gotten this to work? I can serve under other ports, but I'd really like
to use SmallWiki as my default site...

Ports under 1024 are always reserved, you must be super user to run a
server with a lower port number (you could run it using sudo). Also,
make sure nothing already runs on the http port (sudo lsof | grep
LISTEN).

I exactly encounter the same problem.
One solution we adapter here, at the Uni of Bern, is to configure the apache server locate
in front of the smallwiki to forward HTTP request from kilana to kilana:8080.

Hi Alex,
I'd like to know how can we do exactly what you have done. I
mean, with another domain/port, so we can have a smallwiki attending
port 9510 from an apache2 virtual server redirecting port 80 to it.
Can you post any script for this?

Many ISPs prevent their customers from serving http on port 80 or rather
they outright block port 80. However, a service like www.dyndns.org will
get one past this. For example: http://wiki.nycsmalltalk.org runs on 8080
but I still get to provide a nice looking url to the public i.e.
wiki.nycsmalltalk.org this is due to the their "MyWebHop re-direction
service".

I have a related patch,
We run Smallwiki on 8080 behind a firewall.
We run Aprache with https on port 443 which proxies all requests to
https://my.serrver.com/wiki/ to http://localhost:8080/
We use basic authentication on the https connection and have a small
change to Smallwiki to load the Smallwiki user info from the digest
authenitication headers received by Comanche.
The change is a bit of a hack*, but it is functionality we would really
like to see supported.
Let me know.
* The code is good, sweet and terse - baout 5 lines, but a SWStructure
cannot see the SWKom instance managing it, so it does not know the
basePath. We assumed a single insctance of SWKom, and added SWKom
class>>#current.
Please let me know.
