In the ancient version of SmallWiki we used up to
yesterday
there was a problem with escape sequences when the pages was
edited again. Some got lost then. In the current version you
still lose the escape sequence of \|.
escaping is a relatively new feature of SmallWiki and don't let you
fool by the fact that unnecessary escaping is optimized by SmallWiki.
As you observed correctly there is a problem with \| in certain
contexts. Unfortunately I don't see an easy fix to solve this problem,
as the parser has to be changed as well. Maybe we should do a coding
session together sometime ... ;)
The only work-around I'm currently able to offer to you is use the
html-escaping in the rare cases where it is necessary:
