Hi,
is there any photo gallery available for Pier? I mean a widget where I
could upload pictures and they are rendered in a nice way. I started
one 4 years ago but I abandoned it.

I am excited about trying Pier, but I have a bit of an investment in
code I have written in Visualworks 7.6 versus Squeak.
I tried loading the Pier bundle from the Cincom public repository, but
got lots of errors.
I found that if I pre-loaded Magritte, things went a little better, but
I am still getting errors.
Is the Visualworks version of Pier a dead end? Am I missing some
dependencies? Should I use an older version of Visualworks? Should I
just port my code over to Squeak?
If the Pier bundle on the Cincom public repository is good, then let me
know and I'll post my specific errors to try to work through it.
Thank-you.
Hi list,
I have a doubt about how to solve a problem in a system I'm doing, I'll
start explaining the context:
The application is Pier based, but it is not a CMS (well, at least not
just a CMS), it adds functionality bu extending pier components and
commands.
There are some added data that should be persisted to file, in order to
be able to rebuild the image and has backups and so on...
And for consistency (and in a paranioc way, but needed because we are
keeping money ammounts, etc.) we are also persisting commans executed
by users, and then we are capable to rebuild the user account if
something happens.
For both persistency issues we are using SandstoneDB.
Well, the problem is when I want to persist pier commands (not those
created by us, but previous ones)... many has class references and
Sandstone tries to persist them too (and then SystemDictionary, and
then hangs).
My approach to solve this problem is adding a couple of methods to
PRCommand #toSandstone and #fromSandstone who changes class references
for symbols and viceversa.
But now I have other problem: not all the commands are so easy to solve
:) For example, those related to PRChangeCommand, it has a dictionary
(fields) with a magritte description... and again, a large set of
not-recordable data.
My questions is: how can I solve this problem? I can just serialize
(with SIXX or binary) fields, but that does not ensure data integrity
if I reconstruct it latter... or I can just manually get enough data to
reconstruct ir manually when needed... but I'm not sure if this is a
good approach or not.
Any opinion?
Thanks in advance,
Esteban
Hi Doru,
Maybe you could add the new videos I produced on http://www.piercms.com/doc/screencasts
?
Cheers,
Alexandre

Dear List,
I have produce a number of video that summarize the experience I
gained with Pier.
The first one is about adding a news entry: http://www.vimeo.com/2344423
If you have any comments, I will be glad to take them into account
before producing the next videos.
Cheers,
Alexandre

Dear List,
I recently set up a Pier on seasidehosting for the conference software
composition 2009. The website has been up for a couple of days already.
When I google: software composition 2009
I have no hit on http://sc2009.seasidehosting.st/pier . Any idea why?
I have no experience with google ranking. I do not think that using
pier and seasidehosting prevent google from indexing this website.
Anyone can confirm this please?
Regards,
Alexandre

Hi!
I added one user once, but I forgot how I did it. I tried to add
another one, but I am unlucky so far. Here is what I tried:
- In _System Management, I press "add", but it seems I can add a page
there, but not a user
- In _System Management, I press "edit", this is to modify the page
_System Management
- In _System Management, "Setting" does not seem to let one add users
- In _System Management/Users, pressing "add" is to add a page. I do
not know what this mean.
- In _System Management/Users, pressing "edit" is to edit the
component page.
- In _System Management/Users, pressing "setting" is to set
something else than users.
I tried similar "add/edit/setting" on Group, I haven't found the way
to add a user.
Am I doing something completely wrong? Is Pier suitable for a
conference website ?
Cheers,
Alexandre

Here's a little change set I whipped up today. It annotates Table
rows with 'class=odd' or 'class=even' so that you can apply css to
color alternate rows. Comments, criticisms, etc., welcome.

Damien,
Uhh. I'm afraid your right. I ignored the seaside hosting part as I host
my own.
