For his photos, my son has found the following solution:
1) Uses
Flickr.com for storing his photos, and
2) Creates a "simple" page with the content reproduced bellow (where
references to "FIXME" should be replaced by individual information)
Here is an example:

I've not tested it, but maybe it (or a variant) could also be used as
a practical slideshow solution?!
